Version 1.0

voteMe.live is operated out of Ghana and processes payments through Paystack. We never share voter details with organizers beyond what the event's registration settings authorize. Tickets are signed with a rotatable HMAC key so a compromised scanner cannot forge entries. Read more in our privacy policy and how it works.

Setting up Paystack subaccounts for Ghana-based events

Paystack is the payment infrastructure behind every paid transaction on voteMe.live. If you are an event organizer in Ghana, understanding how Paystack subaccounts work will help you trust the system, troubleshoot payment issues, and manage your withdrawal expectations.

What is a Paystack subaccount?

Paystack's subaccount feature allows a platform (voteMe.live) to collect payments on behalf of a business (you, the organizer) and automatically split each transaction between the platform's account and the business's account.

When a voter pays GHS 5.00 to vote, Paystack receives the full GHS 5.00, deducts its processing fee, and then splits the remainder: 10% stays in the voteMe.live master account and 90% moves to your subaccount. This happens in real time at the moment of payment confirmation.

How your subaccount is created

When you create your first paid event on voteMe.live, the platform provisions a Paystack subaccount automatically using the mobile money or bank details you provided during onboarding. You do not need a Paystack account yourself β€” everything runs under the voteMe.live master account structure.

The subaccount creation happens in the background when you publish your event. You will see the subaccount status in your event's Finance tab.

One subaccount, multiple revenue streams

Your subaccount is reused across all paid features on the same event:

  • Paid voting revenue β†’ your subaccount (90%)
  • Ticket sales β†’ your subaccount (95%)
  • Paid nominations β†’ your subaccount (95%)
  • Paid voter registration β†’ your subaccount (95%)

You do not get a new subaccount for each feature. One event, one subaccount, all revenue in one place.

Ghana-specific: Mobile Money settlement

Paystack supports Mobile Money settlement in Ghana. MTN MoMo, Telecel Cash, and AirtelTigo Money are all supported both for accepting payments (from voters and ticket buyers) and for disbursing your earnings (when you withdraw).

You do not need a bank account. If you operate primarily via Mobile Money β€” which many Ghanaian businesses do β€” you can receive your entire event revenue on your MoMo wallet.

All payouts are manual

voteMe.live does not schedule automatic payouts. There are no weekly or monthly automatic transfers. Your subaccount balance accumulates until you request a withdrawal.

To withdraw, go to Finance β†’ Withdrawals in your dashboard. You will receive a one-time OTP on your registered email address to confirm the request. The withdrawal then goes through a brief review and is transferred to your Mobile Money or bank account via Paystack.

Most withdrawals are processed within a few hours on business days.

What if I need to change my payment details?

If your Mobile Money number changes or you want to switch to a different account, contact support at voteme.live/contact. This requires a re-verification step with Paystack to ensure the new account actually belongs to you. Do not attempt to update payment details through other means.

Checking your balance

Your real-time subaccount balance is shown on the Finance page in your dashboard. The balance updates as payments are processed. The "available for withdrawal" amount may differ slightly from the "total gross" due to Paystack processing fees and the platform's share already having been deducted.

A note on test vs live mode

During event setup and testing, keep your event in draft mode. Paid voting is only active when the event is published and the voting window is open. All real transactions use Paystack's live environment β€” there is no sandbox mode for public voting.
